If you have not updated your home insurance in a while, then you may be underinsured, a problem that could cost you thousands should something happen. It is important to update your buildings and/or contents policy frequently – preferably at least once a year – and also to do so every time you make a big purchase or increase the value of your home in any way (like installing new windows or adding a conservatory).

If it’s been a while since you have updated your policy, then it is time to make a check of your house to see if you are currently underinsured. The first step is to check the house itself. The proper home insurance cover should pay the cost of rebuilding the house should anything happen to the property. Note that this is different from the market value of the home, which is likely to be much higher. Do not forget to include any outbuildings on your property. You should update the rebuilding costs for your insurance cover every time you make home repairs or carry out improvements, and every few years you should re-evaluate the costs to see if inflation or housing market prices have increased the rebuilding cost of your property.

Next, you should walk through your home with a note book, pen and calculator, and take a good, long look at your possessions inside and out. Your contents cover should be enough to replace your current belongings inside the property. There are two ways in which insurers will do this, so make sure that you are aware of each and take out the correct policy for your needs. Some policies will cover a replacement cost, meaning that if your television is destroyed in a home fire, you will get an equal or better television through your insurance. The other type of contents cover is cheaper, but could cost you more in case of an emergency, and only covers the value of the item at the time that it was destroyed. This means that your insurance company will pay you the current value of your old, slightly outdated television set, which may be worth next to nothing anymore.

Insure the contents of your home carefully, and make sure to note and mention the costs of any valuable individual items that you wish to insure. These items can include your stereo system, camera, computer, collectible items, and nice pieces of furniture. Mention these items to your insurance company or broker to ensure they are adequately covered at the correct rates and remember to update your policy regularly. Also, do not forget to take a trip outside to catalog your barbeque, outdoor furniture, and other outside property or belongings which can be damaged or stolen and would be costly to replace.

You should read the policy conditions carefully before buying any home insurance. Check for any exclusions or excesses that could make claiming for certain items or under some circumstances expensive. It’s also worthwhile contacting the insurer to check if they offer any discounts for installing and using approved security measures and get the details of recommended dealers and fitters. Don’t forget to update your policy if you upgrade your security.

Moving to a different state can pose a certain amount of stress for the unknown. Whether you are moving because of a job; taking care of a sick relative, or you are stationed in a new area in the military just the thought of moving can cause stress. To minimize having a stressful time during your next move, here are some things to think about to make your move go smooth.

Plan your move

Your move will become much easier if you plan ahead first. It?s best to review your finances to see how much money it will cost you to hire movers, transportation for you and your family (by plane or car) and what new items you will need to make your new home feel more homely. Making a list of things you need to do to be checked off as they are completed is the best way to ensure a smooth move.

Find a new home

Before you actually move to your new location, it?s probably best to visit the area first to find a new home. Whether you will be renting an apartment or buying a new house, you want to give yourself time to check out neighborhoods and decide on a price. Rushing to purchase a home at the last minute could result in you living in a home you don?t want or getting a home at a higher price than you intended to pay for.

Traveling to your destination

If you plan to drive to your new home, you will need to be prepared for a safe trip. Be sure to map out your destination and review driving conditions before you go. If you are driving a large moving truck, you might want to avoid driving through mountainous regions. Having a road side assistance plan, in case of emergencies, is also important when driving far distances. You never know when you will need help.

Notify friends and family of your move

You want to make it easy for friends and family to reach you upon the arrival of your new location. Therefore, before you go, take a trip to the post office to send your loved ones a post card to tell them of your new address. While you?re there, you will also want to put in a change of address request with the post office to transfer all your mail to your new location.

Moving your family, especially if you have children can be a stressful event for everyone. You have to remember, each family member will have to adapt to a new environment; make new friends; adjust to new schools or jobs as well as get familiar with sleeping in a new home. The actual stage of moving can even add to the stress of moving with your family. So, the best you can do is to make the move go as smooth as you can. Here are a few guidelines to help you along.

Plan your move

Before you move, it?s best to talk with the family first. Explain your intentions and reasons for moving and request that you get everyone?s support to make the move easier for the whole family. Involving your children in the process will hopefully ease their tension about moving. Write out an action plan and work together to minimized and organize their belongings to be boxed away.

Traveling to your new home

Making travel arrangements in advance will ensure a smooth transition. If you plan on flying your family there, make plane flights early to ensure that you get cheaper prices. If you decide to drive to your new home be sure to take a map along with safety equipment such as a first aide kit, flairs, and a spare tire. Road side assistance and a cell phone are important items to have with you when traveling long distances.

Activate new services

In order to make moving into your new home go as smooth as possible, be sure to activate new services such as telephone, gas, electricity, cable, and internet prior to your arrival. The worst thing for a family to endure is for them to move into a new place where they have no access to anything. You want the new impression of their home to be a warm welcome.

Plan moving arrangements for your pet

If you are traveling with a pet, you want their transition to go as nicely as possible. A lot of animals are just as frightened to move into a new environment as the rest of your family. Be sure your pet has a comfortable cage to travel with you on your move whether it?s by plane or car.

“The fatal law of gravity; when you are down, everything falls down on you.” (Sylvia Townsend Warner, novelist)

“Not if I represent you!” (Iain Gould, Personal Injury Solicitor)

Falling over in a public place is embarrassing and painful. There’s not a lot we can do about that. But we can help you get better, get compensated, and get on with your life. Iain Gould, personal injury solicitor and partner at David Phillips and Partners explains how?

1. Get expert representation

Anyone can claim to be an expert. Not many people truly are. Iain Gould has been working exclusively as a personal injury solicitor (lawyer) for over 14 years. He’s been appointed twice to the Law Society’s expert Personal Injury panel, which means that he’s been independently assessed as an expert in his field. He’s also a ‘litigator’ with the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers. He’s recovered millions of pounds of compensation for people over the years. One of his more recent cases settled for over ?1.5 million alone, although he also deals with lower lots of lower value cases too.

“I enjoy the challenge,” Iain says. “It’s especially satisfying for me to take on the ‘big boys’ on behalf of an injured accident victim, and win. The law can be complicated when dealing with these claims, so I often have to use all my experience and skill to get the right result for my client. It’s rewarding for the client, and for me.”

2. Know your claim

One reason why accidents in public places can be tricky is because there are different laws which apply depending on where and how the accident happened.

For example, you may have been hurt through no fault of your own:

If you tripped and fell over a raised paving flag on the pavement

If you slipped on a spillage in a shopping centre, council building etc

If you fell through a broken floorboard in a tenanted property which the landlord knew about, but didn’t fix

“Accidents on the pavement or roads are usually, but not always, dealt with by the local council,” Iain says. “We have to show that, among other things, they failed in their duties to you as a road user under the Highways Act. In particular, they failed to regularly inspect and maintain the area where you fell.” He goes on to point out that, “the road or pavement must only be maintained to a ‘reasonable condition’. Because this varies depending on the type of surface, the amount of people using it, the nature of the defect which caused your fall, and even the weather, it’s important to get early expert advice to see if you can prove that the council failed in their duty.”

Accidents in private premises, such as shops, offices and tenanted buildings, are different again. As Iain Gould points out, “these are dealt with by different laws. You have the ‘common law’, which has built up over time by decided cases, and statutory duties which are created by Acts of Parliament. The owner of the place where you fell has different duties depending on the circumstances.” So, again, Iain recommends getting in touch and seeking expert advice from a dedicated accident compensation solicitor such as him.

3. Help us; help you

“The quality of the evidence we get can make or break a case,” remarks Iain. “It’s vital that you get information to help us prove your claim as soon as possible.” In practice, this means:

Getting names and addresses of witnesses to both the accident itself, and how long the defect which caused you to fall was there (if possible)

Get seen by a doctor and make sure that they record the accident circumstances properly. If you’re given a sick note, keep a copy.

Photographs and a sketch plan of the accident site so we can identify it. “I recommend that people use their mobile phone cameras if they have one. It’s quick and convenient, and can be good evidence as it shows the defect which caused the accident shortly after it happened.”

Get your home insurance documentation, and any union membership details, together. This will help us find out quickly how we are to arrange for your case to be funded.

“The most important thing is to contact us immediately after you’ve received medical help,” warns Iain. “This is because the defect can be fixed before we get the chance to have it checked out, making it far harder for us to prove your claim.”

4. What to claim for

“If you’re likely to receive damages of more than ?1,000, I’ll be able to help,” notes Iain. “Valuing injuries is an art, more than a science, and is something which takes years of experience to learn.”

Iain points out that, “although we have guidelines for injuries, everyone is different, so they can’t be treated as gospel. It’s best to contact me, so I can get full details of your injuries, and then honestly advise you if your claim is worth pursuing.”

Iain warns that it’s virtually impossible to value injuries accurately shortly after the accident. “We instruct expert doctors to prepare medical reports, which give us details of your injuries, and your likely recovery period. These are vital in helping us assess your claim.”

As well as injuries, he points out that you can also claim for:

Lost earnings while you were off work recovering

Travel expenses to and from doctors and the hospital

Physiotherapy and other treatments to help you get better

Care and assistance provided by family and friends

Damaged clothing, glasses and personal items

Medical expenses, such as painkillers, supports etc.

Stamps, phone calls, photo processing costs

In more serious cases, the costs of alterations to the home to accommodate wheelchairs, for example

“Every case is different, so I always talk to my client about what they need to claim for at the beginning of the case, and as it’s proceeding,” says Iain. “Keeping receipts and a care diary are vital, as these help prove the claim to the insurers and, if necessary, the court.”

5. Paying for your case

Iain’s proud to say that, “my firm has been doing accident claims on a ‘no win, no fee’ basis since they were first introduced in 1997. In that time we’ve recovered millions of pounds for our thousands of clients, at no cost to them, win or lose.”

“We don’t charge our clients any fees, at any time, and they always receive 100% of their compensation,” he confirms. “We’re able to do this because we have confidence in our clients. We’re literally putting our money where their mouths are!”

As Iain Gould says, “Most of us aren’t used to falling over. We haven’t done it since we were children! It’s shocking, scary embarrassing, and it hurts! Not, being properly compensated afterwards only adds insult to injury. It’s my job to make sure that doesn’t happen. ”

Pet Insurance is not a new, it has been around for some time. Not many pet owners think about it until something happens to their pet and they find themselves with a Vet’s bill that is quite large or their pet may need an operation and a stay in the animal hospital that they cannot afford.

I was fortunate to find a book called Pet Insurance Secrets Revealed and it helped me enormously with what to look for and what to ask when I was shopping for my pet’s health insurance.

Like any insurance policy you need to do some research.

*What type of cover is available?
*Will it cover a visit to the Vet for the regular check-ups?
*What about if there is surgery involved and a stay in the animal hospital for your pet?
*Will that be covered in total or will you have to pay a percentage?

Today there are more and more insurance companies taking up the pet health care insurance so you do have a choice and it will be worth your while to look at them all carefully. It’s no good thinking your pet is covered only to find there was some small print you hadn’t checked out.

I know I was not aware that different breeds of pets have traits that are hereditary until I read Pet Insurance Secrets Revealed. I found there are different pet insurance packages designed for different pets. Some breeds of dogs have hereditary traits that may be excluded in a policy for you if you have that breed of dog. The age of your pet will have a bearing on the pet insurance policy too. Check out the exclusions very carefully as the conditions that may affect your pet will probably be the ones that could be excluded from the policies.

It is no good having a pet insurance policy that doesn’t cover your normal trips to the Vet, you want one that will provide you with the best possible and affordable coverage.

Remember, as with most insurance, there are deductibles. Pet insurance is no different. So it will apply to your pet’s health insurance too, the higher the deductibles the lower the premiums and vice versa, the loser the deductibles the higher the premiums. If you can afford the higher premiums, that may be a better option, not so much to pay out at the time of treatment.

You know, animals can have many of the same problems as humans, some humans cannot tolerate fat in their diet, this can apply to your pet also. If you are giving your pet a low quality pet food this may have a detrimental effect and cause your pet to be ill. So give your pet the best possible pet food you can afford.

You can help with your pet’s health insurance costs by taking a few steps to ensure your pet stays healthy. I found some great tips in the book about this. Just watching your pet’s diet can make a huge difference. We can spoil our pets without realizing it.

An overweight pet will have the same problems as an overweight human, so manage your pet’s weight too, make sure they get plenty of exercise and always have fresh clean water available at all times.

Remember your pet is not a human, so don’t treat it as one. There is nothing sadder than a little Maltese sulking and pouting because she had to go on a diet and eat dog food, couldn’t have her favorite dish, Lasagna that her owners were having. She sat under the table and wouldn’t eat. Eventually she did start eating her food and now is a much healthier dog. I think it was harder for her owner to have to refuse her favorites.

So we all like to take good care of our pets one way to do this is to make sure we have them covered with pet insurance.

Animal lovers have been saying it for years, but animals, especially pets, are people too! While this is usually meant as a joke, there are elements of truth in it. Many people consider their pet to be a member of the family, and especially for children, the companionship of a loved pet can be something they’ll remember and cherish for their whole life.

That is why there are some things that you should think about for your pet. Obviously you will want it to be happy, and you should therefore make sure that you are feeding it well, with nutritious and healthy food. This doesn’t mean going overboard and giving your dog steak every day, but there are plenty of good quality pet food brands on the market and if you choose one of these it should keep your pet happy and healthy.

Another thing you may wish to give consideration to is housing and space. Make sure you have enough space for the pet you choose. While this is a matter of personal choice, it is generally not such a great idea to have a large dog in a small apartment. If you don’t have a garden then make sure you take your dog out for a walk every day and let it get the exercise it needs. Physical exercise is very important to an animal’s well being, both mental and physical.

As far as health goes, you may wish to have you pet visit the vet for health check-ups. At least have necessary injections provided and other treatments that are recommended for the animal you have. This not only benefits the pet’s health but yours and your families also if they are in close contact with the animal. While vet costs can be very expensive, it is now possible to get pet insurance that will cover all the costs that may be incurred by vets. This is very important for your pet as many trips to the vet may not seem vital, but in fact are very important to an animal’s health and if you have insurance to cover the costs, you are far less likely to put the visit off and instead you will go and give your pet the treatment it needs.

Pet insurance is growing rapidly in popularity as people who genuinely care about their animal, but are not in a position to meet the potentially very high costs of treatment realise that they can provide everything their pet needs at an affordable monthly price.

Pet insurance has been and still is a growing concern with pet owners alike, due to the increasing amount of necessary trips to the veterinarian. Some of these trips can be extremely expensive depending on the reason for your visit. Routine check ups as well as emergency visits can be a costly expense that can be greatly minimized by simply opting into a basic pet insurance plan. Pets are often exposed to situations that can cause illness and accidental injuries. Lets face it, you can’t be with your pet all the time, and like children, pets can get themselves into dangerous situations. Unfortunately, these situations can sometimes lead to vet bills reaching hundreds, sometime thousands of dollars. When you take into consideration routine check ups, medicines, preventative measures, exams and surgeries, you can imagine how quickly this can add up.

There are a number of options available concerning pet insurance and dog insurance that are very affordable to keep your pet well taken care of when those unexpected veterinary pet care bills arise. Complete pet health insurance plans can start as low as 10 dollars per month, which is a small amount to keep your loved pet safe and healthy for years to come. Dog insurance and cat insurance plans can save you a lot of money and stress.

What would you do if your pet suddenly became ill and you needed a thousand dollars for the treatment of your pet? Would you be able to cover the costs without pet health insurance? For some people, this may not be a problem, but for most, this can be a devastating unexpected expense. We love our pets, that is why we have them isn’t it? It would be very difficult to have to let your pet go because of not being able to pay the medical bill. That wouldn’t be an option, besides, how would you tell your children? Absolutely right, you couldn’t. So, for as little as it costs, why not bring piece of mind into the household and make sure your pets medical expenses are covered with pet insurance plan. Believe me, there are many advantages to a good dog insurance plan. Don’t take the chance, and risk finding out the hard way, it’s just not worth it. It’s cheaper to have a pet plan than it is not to have one.

The use of moving storage units has become very popular in recent times. Portable storage units provide you large containers which are useful during the time of moving. Self storage units give you the extra space for your household items when you relocate. After loading your items in the storage units, the company will pick up the storage containers and drop it off at your new destination.

Moving storage units are more convenient than simple storage facilities. All you have to do is to estimate your belongings and book the right size of portable unit with a storage company. The rest of the responsibility lies with the company. When the portable storage arrives, the company workers will load your belongings in the storage unit and transport it to your new location. The portable units can be used for both short and long distance moving.
