If youre reading this, you may have come to the point where your weight has become a problem, despite everything youve tried to correct it. One option to consider is a procedure called lap banding, but there are some things to take into consideration. First there are a number of conditions you have to meet ahead of time though. The National Institute of Health, or NIH has set up these guidelines for people to be considered for the surgery. You must be older than 18, you must have a Body Mass Index or BMI of 40-80 to start with. Also you may be qualified if you have certain pre-existing medical conditions that affect your situation. Also they may need to know that your doctor has worked with you on a plan to reduce your weight, but that has not been successful. These guidelines are US only though. Because of this, you may be tempted to look elsewhere for treatment. One of the options is Mexico. Although this is a much less expensive option, it does come with some hidden costs. You do have to shoulder the financial burden of the procedure yourself in this case, which is $8500 and up. Another monetary consideration is the travel costs lodging and your diet. Something else to consider is your checkups. It might be necessary to make another trip back to Mexico (or wherever) to have a follow-up. Otherwise you might consider trying to find a doctor near you that would be willing to do the checkups.Either way, you want to work out all of those details before you settle on one option or the other. The other option is to have the surgery in the US which can cost $14,000. Thats at a minimum though, you also have to consider other costs like hospitalization, surgery costs, labs, followups, operating room costs, and the costs of any complications. You might find that your insurance company will cover the procedure though. It really just depends on who your insurer is, and how your plan is set up. The best thing is to contact your insurer to be sure. Insurance companies may be more likely to cover costs if you can show that you have a pre-existing medical condition related to your weight gain. The good news is that there are a lot of options. The bad news is that there are a lot of options. Consider looking into the insurance situation first. Weight your options. You might be thinking that getting the surgery done in Mexico is the best, but just be sure to check everything out first.br
